“Mankind is a great, an immense family. This is proved by what we feel in our hearts at Christmas.” – Pope John XXIII
My name is Maggie Lynch and I have been working at St. Mary’s Home as a receptionist during my time off from school. Before this holiday break, I had just completed my study abroad program in London, where I got to experience different cultures and a whole new lifestyle as a college student. So when I returned to the States, I was happy to be welcomed back to the Little Sisters with blessings and open arms. I was also excited to get back to work and interact with all the Residents.
One fantastic event I got to be a part of was the annual Christmas party hosted by A. Finkle & Son’s Co. The Sisters and Residents have been attending this event for more than 10 years and now it has become sort of a Christmas tradition. The afternoon of the party, Residents loaded up on the bus to drive the short distance to the site, which is actually a steel plant. We took the building’s freight elevator to the second level, where we were surprised to find that the rustic warehouse was completely transformed into a winter wonderland! The periphery of the room was decorated with beautiful live Christmas trees and twinkling lights. The other decorations included a live shrubbery display of Santa drawn by reindeer; and a life-sized gingerbread house that double as the refreshment stand.
The buffet had just about anything you could want – salads, turkey and beef stations, meatballs, mashed potatoes, buffalo chicken strips, veggies, mostaccioli . . . the works! Not to mention a wide variety delectable desserts! The entertainment featured live music by Cirrus Falcon who played old and new favorites.
It was beautiful event to say the least; and seeing the Residents enjoyment really put a smile on my face. I was extremely happy to help and be a part of this Christmas extravaganza and I hope
to be able to go next year!
