St. Mary’s Home recently had its annual employee Christmas party and what an event it was. As one of the newest members of the team, I was really impressed. The Sisters have created a family atmosphere for the Residents which they have extended to the staff. Their concern for the wellbeing of each of us shows in a myriad of small and large ways and this gathering was no exception.
All of us were invited to come to the auditorium were tables were set with pretty linen and red and green Christmas plates. The Sisters served a delicious spread which featured Sr. Emma’s delicious homemade pizza pies and Mother Patricia’s mouthwatering cranberry bars.
After lunch, we were treated to an impromptu performance by Shelaina Reid, certified nursing assistant, who sang two beautiful Christmas songs. Then the Sisters announced the surprise drawing which turned out to be a lot of fun.
As the festivities started to wind down, Sr. Patricia asked us to come to the stage to pick up our special Christmas gift. Each of the 110 employees was given a set of kitchen knives and a hand-made cutting board made by a loyal volunteer. It was touching to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they expressed their gratitude for their very own hand-crafted gift.
A few days later, I reminisced about the party as I used my new board to cut up vegetables for diner. It was my favorite Christmas gift this year.
‘Tis the Season to Celebrate our Staff!
