A few days before Christmas at St. Mary’s House, Residents of the 2nd floor were visited by some of Santa’s helpers – led by Sr. Mary Ann, my mom Betty Vaughan and me. We came to deliver individual Christmas goodie bags prepared by generous “elves” from Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management Department. Instead of having their own “grab bag” at the office this year, they put together gift bags, following Mother Patricia’s suggestions. While the bags were as distinct as the individuals who put them together, a number of them held Kleenex, ChapStick, combs, nail polish and lip stick for the ladies, and after shave and deodorant for the men. Some included fun picture magazines, warm socks, blankets, ornaments, stuffed reindeer (bearing a tag that says: “Jesus is very deer to me”).
The Residents were delighted with both the visit and the present. Many had hugs and kisses for all of us. It was a wonderful experience for everyone. Two of our assistants, Rossy Esenberg and Aimee Gasior, promised to return to visit the Residents with me again in the near future!
