October was packed with harvest-themed festivities that were kicked off with the Resident’s annual Oktoberfest. The following day, Residents (including Sisters and Staff) were invited to show off their artistic talent through “pumpkin art.” Everyone was given their own pumpkin to decorate. These works of art were then put on display so that everyone could cast their vote for their favorite choice.
Not surprisingly, Resident Jackie Bruno and Sr. Mary’s team (Residents and Staff from Our Lady of Joy unit) took first place in their respective divisions. Jackie’s entry was “Batman” and Sr. Mary’s team was all about “Cat in the Hat.”
For me, the highlight had to be the “parade of costumes.” Students from nearby St. Josaphat’s School came to St. Mary’s Home to “trick or treat.” Residents and volunteers greeted each of the 380 students to give out homemade treats and candy. Some of the Residents, not wanting to miss out on the fun, also dressed up to welcome them.
It was truly “bootiful.”
