The Residents love the outdoors and their experience of the beautiful outdoor environment of St. Mary’s Home has been enhanced by the recent addition of our Enabling Garden. The garden, with its raised planters, is designed to eliminate the physical barriers that may prevent residents using wheelchairs or walkers from fully appreciating the plants and flowers. Some of our Residents even helped with the planting! Now everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the selection of different flowers and herbs, as well as pepper and tomato plants.
The Enabling Garden has even been recognized by our neighbors, winning 2nd place in the Container category during the 42nd Annual Sheffield Garden Walk. The grounds of the home were open to the public during the festival, which was held on Saturday, July 17th and Sunday, July 18th. We welcomed more than 200 visitors who enjoyed the garden and sweets from our bake sale while listening to the sounds of “Barry Winograd and the Alternatives Big Band.”
