Thank You, Veterans!

Wednesday, November 11, marked a special occasion: Veterans Day. To mark the day, St. Mary’s Home paid tribute to our Resident veterans for their dedicated service to our country in war and in peace, for their bravery and honor, and for the many selfless sacrifices they made to safeguard the freedoms all Americans enjoy today. We owe them our gratitude and prayers.

On hand for our special ceremony were some of the fine men and women of the Chicago Police Department, 18th District-Near North, who formally saluted our veterans and bestowed upon each of them attractively wrapped baskets of gifts—tokens of their appreciation and respect. We thank these officers for their service and for helping to make this such a lovely moment for our veterans.

The following Residents of St. Mary’s Home are veterans:

Ron Butschke- Army: served in 1967 and received electronics equipment training
Stas Sopala- Army: served from 1958-60
Jim Kane- Army
Simon Peacock- Navy: served during the Korean War between 1950-53
Paul Scherer- Army: served from 1950-1952
Mickey Davis- Army
