Renaissance Faire Fun!
Just shy of twelve noon on May 9, Residents crossed the threshold of the auditorium and left behind the current day, transported to that long-ago time of the noble court of the Renaissance. Ladies, lords, knights, and even a court jester escorted our excited guests to their awaiting places at the round tables set for a mouthwatering meal fit for a king.
As final preparations for the feast occurred, a cry came from the front stage: “Hear ye! Hear ye! Welcome one and all to St. Mary’s Home Renaissance Faire!” At the moment the crowd erupted, the doughty knights and their fearsome horses dashed through the Residents and galloped upstage.
An introduction was hardly needed, for this was the moment all had been waiting for: the joust!
After the shaking of hands, the Gold Knight and the Silver Knight were off! Back and forth they battled on, driving their gallant steeds, each training his lance on his opponent’s torso. All the while, Residents cheered and hollered for their favorite contestant, hoping theirs would be the eventual winner.
At once, both knights fell to the ground, exhausted from battle. This contest could not end in a draw! Amid great applause, hoots, and high-spirited whistles, the winner was decided. Gold Knight took the crown, and all shouted, “Hooray!”
The knights shook hands and hurried away as Residents savored their meal and joyously chattered about their thoughts of the tilt.
What a marvelous day to go back in time and share in the richness and fun of those golden olden days!
