March 19: The Feast of St. Joseph
March is truly special to the Little Sisters of the Poor. It is a month dedicated to St. Joseph, the chosen patron saint of the Little Sisters. Because he provides so lovingly for the Holy Family, our Mother Foundress St. Jeanne Jugan believed St. Joseph would guide the congregation and would be its Protector, too, blessing the Little Sisters with his intercession.
The Feast of St. Joseph is March 19, and to help us mark this important day, Fr. Michael Zielke, OFM Conv. (Order of Friars Minor Conventual) joined our Mother Julie and a number of our Little Sisters and staff for a solemn procession, including the saying of the Rosary and the carrying of the monstrance, led by the cross and candle bearers, around the grounds of St. Mary’s Home and Jugan Terrace.
Returning to the chapel, Fr. Zielke and processioners continued on with prayers and songs, which were shared on the public address system throughout our Home for our Residents.
This feast day comes amid uncertain days just passed and many more that loom ahead. Requiring social distancing and an abundance of precautions, this global outbreak of the coronavirus is interrupting, changing, and challenging our everyday lives. But this unprecedented time does present to all a precious opportunity: the chance for us to unite ever closer in spiritual nearness praying for one another.
