Father’s Day Treat

Father’s Day Treat

Violinists Lina Yamin and Nelson Mendoza are no strangers to St. Mary’s Home. The couple met in Venezuela while playing in the same orchestra, fell in love, and eventually married. These graduates of the music program at DePaul University first visited us a couple of years ago as part of “Make Music Chicago” Day, playing a number of moving duets. Since then, they have charmed the ears and touched the hearts of our Residents on several occasions.

Most recently, for Father’s Day, Lina and Nelson presented an outdoor program to celebrate the day and to thank fathers for their sacrifices, hard work, guidance, and love. They covered a variety of genres—from classical to tango. They also included a song from the Beatles!

These talented musicians delivered quite the concert, earning applause, praise, and broad smiles from our delighted and appreciative Residents. Their performance was definitely a treat for Father’s Day—and much better than a pair of socks or a tie!

We thank Lina and Nelson for sharing their gift with us. We can’t wait for their next performance!

Happiness is Yelling BINGO!
